Skin Must Have: Vitamin C Serum

IMG_2957.JPG

Vitamin C Serum, another love of my life. Three top skin changers are Sunscreen, Retinol and Vitamin C serum for sure. I talked about my skin problems in this post, and Vitamin C serums have been major game changers for the appearance of my skin. I have tried a variety of brands already, and Drunk Elephant is my favorite so far.

You can't go wrong with vitamin C in general, any way you have it is good.

The great thing about serums is that they are very rich and concentrated with the ingredients they contain, and because of their lighter consistency, they penetrate the skin way deeper than creams. The secret is to apply your serums right after the toner, before all the other heavy stuff like sunscreen, moisturizers and oils.

Let's go into the details on why Vitamin C serum is amazing. The thing is that our skin doesn't produce vitamin C naturally, so we have to apply it topically to keep our skin super healthy. It performs a variety of functions within the skin, so here are my bullet points (I know, I love bullet points):

  • stimulates collagen production
  • protects the skin from environmental pollution because of their antioxidants properties
  • helps reduce visible discolorations (noticed a more even tone within a week, it's like magic)
  • helps your sunscreen by enhancing the protection from UV exposure
  • plumps your skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles

TIP: when looking for products, look for serums that contain at least 15 to 20 percent of pure L-ascorbic acid. This is the most bioavailable source of Vitamin C, and without going too much into the chemistry behind it, this is what will give the most results and benefits.

As always, you will find all my favorites below!
