Oatmeal: a walk to memory lane

I love comfort food. Thats where I go when I want extra love and care in my day. I've been eating oatmeal since I was little, and my grandma used to make for us the best (beeeesssstttt) oatmeal ever. It was incredibly special, and tasted like ice cream, only that it would warm your heart instead.

When I started to cut down dairy from my diet not having the exact recipe for the oatmeal was one of the hardest things I gave up to. I tried different ways until I found this way to do it. Although I still preferred the original recipe, this one is pretty pretty close. Coconut and cashew milk tend to have their distinct flavors and didn't help the cause of trying to mimic my grandma's recipe, so I decided to use almond milk instead. It's the one with less flavor, so it doesn't modify how the oatmeal tastes that much.

I have this oatmeal around three times a week for breakfast, and I love it every time. The benefits of oatmeal are countless. First it's incredibly nutritious, it's a good source of carbs and fiber that helps your digestion and your appetite, contains vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and it's good for your skin.

So here's how I like it:

1cup of Oat grains

Almond milk

Ground cloves

Cinnamon

Stevia (I use

Truvia

)

Vanilla

Extra: I add honey because I am obsessed, but you can add Agave if you want to make it healthier.

Place the oats, almond milk, ground cloves, vanilla and cinnamon in a sauce pan and mix together, stirring occasionally until it boils. Then add the stevia, or any sweetener you like. You can skip this step and just add the honey or the agave, and

Boom!

My way to still have a little piece of home, without the dairy.

Thanks for reading!
