In My Makeup Bag for Spring

As the years go by, I find myself using less and less makeup. I focus on looking for products that feel very natural on the skin, covering certain parts and enhancing others. Maybe foundation sticks I can easily apply on red areas of my face, or cream blushes that look like a natural blush.

Products that make me feel and look like myself.

I enjoy when parts of my skin show through my makeup. Before I would cover pimples, freckles, this, that, but who has time for that these days? These months that I’ve spent working from home, barely wearing makeup and simplifying every aspect of my day, I have learned to love each part of me that shows up.

And the more I do, the less I feel like I have to cover it.

So I’ve switched my attention to certain brands, and tried a few products that quickly became part of my routine (for those makeup days). A rule of thumb for me with everything these days is “less is more”, and it specially applies to Spring and Summer seasons. With the weather getting warmer, I look for makeup products that I can barely feel on my skin. Nothing too heavy or saturated. Glosses and peachy cheeks and cream products for that healthy and youthful skin.

Foundation Sticks

These are my favorite to cover any redness or dark circles. Very easy to apply with a brush or with my fingers, and the texture is very moisturizing and creamy. I just apply it on certain areas that need a little bit of help as a way to bring light into my face. Top 2 Favorite foundation sticks are the Merit Perfecting Complexion, and the Westman Atelier Vital Skin. They look incredibly natural on the skin, and give you that “I woke up like this” glow and coverage without being too much.

Cream Blush

I remember watching a segment on Good Morning America about switching to cream makeup during the dryer months around 8 years ago. I loved it instantly and have used a cream blush ever since. They give your skin such a youthful look, and are super easy to apply. I found this shade from Merit and it’s the perfect pink for my skin tone. It is more like a balm, so it looks incredibly natural. I even wear it without any makeup on just to add a bit of blush to my cheeks.

Eyebrow Pencil

I am a true believer that the eyebrows are the frame of your face. Clean, well-groomed eyebrows make such a difference on the face. I don’t overdraw mine that much, only fill in certain areas in my eyebrows that may need more coverage. Another thing I find so important is finding the right shade because it can go wrong very easily (yikes!). I’ve been using this pen from Anastasia Beverly Hills for literally a decade. Learning how to fill in my eyebrows was a before and after for me. It’s the one thing I cannot miss in my makeup bag.

Volumizing Mascara

I rarely wear eyeliner, so mascara is very important for me. I have collected my favorite ones throughout the years, and this one from Kosas gets easily on the Top 5. The formula has the perfect consistency, not too dry that gets clumpy not too wet that smashes all over your eye lids. It makes your lashes look so long and full, and stays all day without smudging.

Highlighter Balm

I didn’t like highlighters until I found this one. It’s not creamy or powdery, it’s a balm (which I think it’s the key for me). It makes your skin dewy and with the type of glow you only get on a beach vacation. Finishing up my makeup with a little bit of this highlighter elevates the look to a whole new level, and gives a very young, playful and healthy look to your skin.

Lip Balm

All my lip products are clear, maybe with a rosy undertone (if anything). As with everything I’ve mentioned before, a very natural look. Not saying I don’t enjoy a red lip from time to time, but for the daily, a soft lip does the trick. I have a collection of lip balms, but the Dior Addict Lip Glow Balm has been a favorite for a while. It’s super hydrating, plumping and heals any dryness, leaving your lips super soft.
